![]() This'll be fun to use! Yeah it is a bit of a shame that it can end up wasted due to movement but that is you know. Not send one, wait to see if comet storm procs, then send the 2nd if it doesn't. Not sure how viable this will be since you send 2 ice lances immediately after eachother. If there is one charge of Winter's Chill remaining on the target and your 2p tier ( Frost Storm) is triggered, cast a Frostbolt if it would result in additional Comet Storm projectiles benefitting from Shatter. Tying it to Icy Veins makes little sense and I hope it is reevaluated along with Comet Storm Winter's Chill interactions. It is poorly tuned, disrupts normal gameplay due to it consuming Winter's Chill procs, and gets much worse with poor Icy Veins uptime due to forced downtime in fights. Overall, this set bonus is high risk, low reward. ![]() This is a good time to point out that changing Comet Storm to no longer munch Winter's Chill would result in more talent variety in the 45 row, as it would overtake Splitting Ice in single target, even without this set bonus. The effect is weak enough to stand on its own. That being said, I really don't think that tying this bonus to Icy Veins uptime is a good idea since it further reinforces Frost's weaknesses with forced downtime in fights or other disruptions like having to stop damage. In 5 target AoE this jumps up to around a 13% increase, further reinforcing Frost's role as an AoE specialist. Even so, this is still low but much closer to what I would expect from a tier bonus. This is assuming Comet Storm still benefits from Winter's Chill without consuming it. This is also assuming you have a superhuman reaction-time to seeing Comet Storm to avoid munching (losing stacks of the debuff without getting their benefit) Ice Lances while the Winter's Chill debuff is active during a proc.Īssuming that this oversight is fixed and Winter's Chill is no longer consumed by Comet Storm, we can expect around an 8-9% gain in single target. Assuming that nothing is changed, this bonus will only account for roughly a 5% damage increase for the 2 and 4 sets combined. ![]() 4 p: Frost Storm Enemies hit by Comet Storm take 2% increased damage from your Frost Spells, up to 10% for 8 sec.Īlthough this set bonus might seem good at a glance, the current implementation of Comet Storm will cause issues for it, due to Comet Storm consuming Winter's Chill stacks on the target. This effect cannot occur more than once every 30 sec. 2 p: Frost Storm While Icy Veins is active your spells have a 25% chance to call down a Comet Storm on your target enemy. In 9.2 Frost Mages get Comet Storm centric bonuses: I couldn't be happier about how quickly the issues with this tier set were fixed. This change also boosts Comet Storm as a talent, giving us more variety. Additionally, with Comet Storm now working for this bonus and with it's new interaction with Winter's Chill, there are gains to be had in playing around your Winter's Chill applications which makes the rotation more engaging and interactive. Since this triggers roughly every 20 seconds, you may gain less damage from this tier bonus on fights where the boss is frequently moved.Īside for missing due to boss movement, this means all of the issues we discussed in the first batch of feedback have been resolved. This means the damage of Comet Storm and the damage increase from Frost Storm both miss. The only outstanding issue with this bonus is that Comet Storm will sometimes miss a moving target. This is still early on, but the Mage theorycrafting community over at Altered Time has worked out that doing both results 2.29% dps gain.ĭorovon of BDGG has provided us with this screenshot. ![]() If there is one charge of Winter's Chill remaining on the target and your 2p tier ( Frost Storm) is triggered, cast a Frostbolt if it would result in additional Comet Storm projectiles benefitting from Shatter. If Comet Storm is talented, you will want to hold your castable Comet Storm until Winter's Chill is active. The interaction between Winter's Chill and Comet Storm was also fixed so Comet Storm is affected by Winter's Chill while not consuming it. This is a fantastic change, but it's not all. On paper, the two main takeaways on this update to the tier set are that the bonus is no longer tied to Icy Veins and also the internal cooldown is now 20 seconds which means roughly 3 procs per minute instead of 2. This effect cannot occur more than once every 20 sec. 2p: Frost Storm Your spells have a 25% chance to call down a Comet Storm on your target enemy. In the latest pass of updates in 9.2 Frost Mages have had their Frost tier updated: ![]()
